Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related technical field is required (or equivalent experience), plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants selected may be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Software Architect to help us advance the cutting-edge technology that supports our nation’s core defense systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with defense partners to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
The Senior Software Architect is a leader in the development of next generation avionics platforms for some of the world's most advanced defense systems.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical leadership to software engineering teams
  • Work with customers to develop and present innovative solutions for high assurance systems
  • Organize a team around an architecture and lead planning activities
  • Investigate new technologies for applicability to solve current and future technical challenges

Additional Responsibilities

  • Exercise creative and innovative thinking
  • Deliver next level, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customer's changing business needs
  • Understand the defense business domain to anticipate likely architecture changes
  • Rapidly absorb new knowledge bases and incorporate them into new and existing architectures
  • Follow industry trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems is consistent with or superior to, industry best practices


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Candidates must show a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of software systems and applications, and the ability to effectively develop and lead software solutions.

 

The successful candidate must have the following:

  • 5 to 10 years embedded software development
  • 5 to 10 years architecting avionics platforms
  • Civilian or military defense industry experience


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Embedded operating systems including RTOS and partitioned OS environments
  • Embedded Linux architecture
  • Industry standards such as DO-178, FACE
  • High bandwidth data buses and network technology e.g. PCI Express, 10GB Ethernet
  • Standard design methods (e.g. UML)
  • Linux programming
  • Software requirements analysis
  • C/C++ embedded application software development
  • Designing systems with security and robustness
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to negotiate with customers


PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
