Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.


Department of Defense security clearance is not required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Manufacturing Project Engineer for NPI.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


In this position, the Manufacturing Project Engineer will be the technical, schedule, and quality lead for New Product Introduction programs. 

Develops, implements and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies
Interfaces with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products
Estimates manufacturing cost, determines time standards and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines
Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations
Performs detailed analysis of the ability to produce electrical or mechanical subsystems
Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards
Implements and analyzes manufacturing engineering plans and projects
Applies lean techniques to set up or improve manufacturing processes
Develops manufacturing engineering plans and strategies for specific products and processes
Researches and analyzes data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
Researches and analyzes data, such as customer design proposals, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees
Contributes to the completion of major programs and projects
Understands and has limited participation in the development of Proposal Estimate Rationale (PER)/Basis of Estimate (BOE) per proposal instructions
Plans and executes project tasks for activities described above
Regular contact with senior levels of internal work groups
Works under limited direction
Contact with project leaders and other professionals within Engineering and Operations departments, and with project teams across the company
Frequent contact with external customers
Travel may be required
Provides resolution to a diverse range of complex problems
Failure to accomplish results or errors may cause significant delays or require the substantial expenditure of resources
Installs manufacturing process systems and conducts production qualification, forecasts and manages manufacturing process capital assets
Develops, designs, procures, and constructs manufacturing process hardware, fixturing tools, software, and work environment
Using lean concepts acts as a project engineer to implement cost reduction efforts
Leads quality initiatives using six sigma methodology to determine extent of non-conformance root cause, and corrective action
Documents procedures, process qualifications, work instructions, shop aids, routings, etc.
Provides process analysis to support new business (NPI) opportunity assessment and quoting
Defines and documents equipment calibration requirements
Identifies training for production related activities
Monitors and controls of process parameters, and identification of special processes and need for SPC
Provides solutions to vendor issues as required
Assists product engineer with design to cost

PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's of Science in technology or other Engineering disciplines also acceptable.
